Bondi Phenomenon | bRU on Friday Mornings
Every Friday morning hole-in-the-wall café bRU Coffee in North Bondi manages to get coffee out and into the mouths of a very large group of people. Not only do they get the coffees out but those coffees are served in the café’s regular collected ceramic cups. No disposable cups for bRU. How do they do it? The staff aren’t even really sure.
This morning when we went by there was the added complication of a crew filming Craig Reucassel and Costa Georgiadis for an upcoming episode of the ABC’s War on Waste. But those coffees kept going out.
What’s more, Karen Freyer, Teal candidate for Vaucluse spotted the opportunity to spruik her platform. So there was a lot going on.
99% of the regular crowd are typically members of a swimming group called the Bondi Salties who all swim across the bay come rain, hail or shine every Friday. If the seas are looking dangerous they’ll “teabag” at the north end, but they get wet every week and follow it up with a coffee.
More on the Salties below.
