If you haven’t heard of Brenda Matthews before, you may well be hearing her story soon.
As part of the Bondi Festival last night, Brenda told the audience at the Pavilion her very personal, heartbreaking but ultimately hopeful and healing story. Brenda was stolen not once when she and her siblings were taken from her original family, but was taken a second time when out of the blue she was removed from her loving white foster family and returned to her birth parents who had never stopped trying to get their children back. For Brenda this became a story about two ways, and is where the hope and healing come in.
Her book The Last Daughter is available from Gertrude and Alice and other booksellers. The documentary which was a huge hit at the Sydney Film Festival is now screening in cinemas around the country and has just been made available on Netflix. You can watch the trailer HERE.
