Dr B Marika at the Pavilion
In celebration of the Australian Bicentennial in 1988 Yolgnu artist, Dr B Marika (known as Banduk Marika prior to her her death in 2021), was commissioned to create a mosaic artwork for the Bondi Pavilion.
Dr Marika was a titan in the art world, and dedicated to the preservation of Aboriginal art and culture.
She was the first Aboriginal person to sit on the board of the Australian National Gallery and was a driving force for copyright protection, for her own work and the work of others.
