Gargoyle and Vestiges of Lister

From the old French gargouille meaning throat, the gargoyle is traditionally used as either a spout to direct water away from a building, or to ward off evil spirits from the church. Either way this grotesque carved figure is an unexpected addition to the Bondi streetscape.

Evil spirits be gone.

This one can be found above the building on Bondi Road, just back from Boonara Avenue on the left as you’re going away from the beach. The one with the old Anthony Lister on the facade, (not as common a sight as it once was).
