Lily Rushton and Theo Outlandish: a Covid Love Story

Lily and Theo met (matched on Tinder) in May 2021 while Theo was here visiting his cousin. Not long after that fateful meeting he went back home in Wellington, New Zealand but returned to Sydney in July for a 10 day stay. Then Covid happened and he couldn’t return home. They had to ask themselves “do we jump in or do we jump out?”. And, well, they jumped in and 2 1/2 years later they’re glad they did. They’re obviously still mad about each other and consider themselves “two sides of the same coin”.

Theo spent much of that time living with Lily at her parents place in Zetland until he found himself a studio here in Bondi (via Potts Point) where Lily now spends much of her time. Theo works at the Apple store in Bondi Junction and Lily is a graphic designer working for Merrivale.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Theo moved to NZ when he was seven. His Zimbabwean name is Tafara Mutingwende.“Tafara means happy in the likeness or presence of God and Mutingwende means something that is alien but draws strength from the unfamiliar or unknown.”

Neither of them own a car and don’t see the need to. They both love to cook and photograph what they have made. This is for reference only. They don’t share on social media. The future is going to be ok!
