People of Bondi: John Shakespeare

People of Bondi | John Shakespeare
Activated Walls currently have a beautifully curated exhibition down along the Promenade, called The Portrait Show.
One of over a dozen art works, the piece above is by youngster Lukas Shakespeare. Lukas’s trusty assistant, John, is seen here helping out on his 10 year old son’s art work.
John is a cartoonist for the Sydney Morning Herald where he’s worked since 1985. He reckons “there’s never been a more exciting time to be a cartoonist..thanks Malcolm and Donald!”
John and his family are Bondi locals and have lived here for 12 years. They have lived all over and are “currently in ‘Bondi Heights’ - which is the little pocket of Bondi Junction at the top of Bondi Rd.”
We asked John what he and his family like about living here:
“Funnily my wife and I aren’t big beach goers, but we love going there, walking along the promenade and enjoying the cafes. Our favourite is La Piadina in Glenayr Ave. Bondi is a great place to bring up a child, we had many fun times with Lukas at the beach playground and North Bondi kids pool.”
