Michael Gallus
Michael Gallus
We have been heartened to see the rejuvenation of The Wall recently. We stopped Michael mid brush stroke to ask him a few questions. Although his name doesn’t suggest it, Michael is from Italy but moved here about 10 years ago.
“At first I was meant to stay for a couple of months before heading further North, but then I got hooked in the relaxed and easy going lifestyle of Bondi, which helped a lot shaping my career change from Chef to Artist/Graphic designer. Also been a keen surfer it as been the best place to get involved in the surfing community, meeting a lot of great people and being able to work as a surf instructor
Michael is motivated by “the beauty of nature, the thrill of skateboarding and surfing, all kind of art, the soulful connection of music and most importantly the great people around me. These for me are the source of happiness, inspiration, and good vibes and they keep me going reminding me to embrace every moment and chase after my dreams with all my heart”.
And how does Michael spend the first hour of his day?
“I usually make myself a cup of coffee and have a good brekkie, obviously get ready to go to work and depending on how much time I’ve got left before I’ll squeeze in a bit of meditation or a morning surf :)”
Is there one thing you’d like people to know about you?
“I’m obsessed with Sixties and Seventies culture. My art and my music is basically all inspired by it.”
Please tell us about this new work.
“The artwork, called ‘the surfheads’ is a metaphorical representation of what surfers feel while riding a wave. The sense of freedom and the flying sensation is what this artwork is based on.”
