One Wave 10th Birthday Fluro Wave
In March 2013 the fledgling OneWave community paddled out at the south end of Bondi for their first fluro surf, saltwater therapy and “anti-bad vibes circle”, to create connection and to get a conversation going around mental health. And they have been bringing colour to the waves every Friday since then (522 times and counting). Rain, hail or shine.
Founder Grant Trebilco had experienced serious and hidden mental health problems that went untreated for many years. Grant established OneWave as a first step to his own recovery.
The idea of wearing fluro was about having fun and making the invisible visible.
This coming Friday OneWave’s now global communities (200 beaches in 50 countries) will be doing a 24 Hour World Fluro Wave to let their communities know that if they are experiencing mental health issues, they are not alone.
