Our first question to Pedro when we interrupted his quiet reading time was to ask if he was a native Spanish speaker. He is. Even though he was reading in English (The Colour Purple) he was sitting in an area at the south end of Bondi Park affectionately known as the Spanish Quarter.

Pedro who is an industrial engineer arrived from Chile with his then partner as a backpacker 7 years ago and they both decided to stay. He has been in Bondi since arriving.
