People of Bondi | Cecil & Shannon

We bumped into Cecil and Shannon on the way back from the pool this morning. They were sitting at the south end watching the whales in the bay. We got talking.

Both men are homeless and sleep in the Bondi area, mostly at the Pavilion.

They prefer Bondi to other parts of Sydney as it’s quieter and the people are nicer.

Both Shannon and Cecil are from South Australia, near Oodnadatta. Cecil reckons that “I don’t own the land, the land owns me.” Shannon is multi-lingual, listing Pitjanjara and Arrernte among the list of 5 or 6 languages that he speaks. His motto for life is “no matter what race, religion, colour or family ties, we are all human beings”. Amen. Definitely worth stopping for a chat with these two.
