People of Bondi | Kirsten Bookalil

Kirsten has only recently arrived in Bondi. Let’s make her feel welcome as she has come from lands far away. Some of you may have heard of Bellevue Hill; the climate is similar but we believe the customs are not like here. Anyway, welcome Kirsten!

We asked Kirsten what she likes about living in her new home and this is what she had to say:

“I’ve just moved to Bondi after visiting daily for years. What you don’t see when you waft in and out is the amazing community, the kids play in the streets and there’s an idyllic existence here, we are all connected by the sea. It’s a lovely pilgrimage whether to walk, exercise, swim or just watch. My other favourite thing here is there’s great coffee!”

And what was the happiest day of your life?

“My happiest day, well having my two kids was life changing but a moment that made me happy and gave me great hope in humanity and the possibility in change was when the ANC won 62% of the votes on 27th April, 1994. Mandela became president of South Africa. Having grown up in South Africa with apartheid it was a day to dance and be happy!”

Kirsten is sister to Jemima, who has just returned to work at Birichina.
