Peter Alexopoulos
Peter has been coming to the pool for a long time. He’s well known for eating an apple poolside every morning.
He first moved to Bondi with his family when he was 12 years old in 1961 but life took him on other journeys before bringing him back.
I moved out of home at 22 years old and lived at Randwick with a mate (plus the occasional couch surfer) for a couple of years. Like most young people travel beckoned so I moved back to my parents nest (to my mother’s delight) to save some money for the adventure ahead. The major part of 1974 was spent backpacking in Europe.
I was married in 1976 and my wife and I moved to Maroubra Beach. For the two years we lived there I was spending five days every week flying to Taree NSW setting up a business. On Christmas Day 1978 Lyn gave birth to our daughter Natalie. Six weeks later we moved to Taree where our son Anthony was born in 1982. We lived there for thirty five years before completing the circle and returning to Bondi.
To me the most striking change in Bondi is the cafe and restaurant scene. All I remember as a boy was a charming European style cake and coffee shop between Lamrock and Hall Street and also the Lamrock Cafe was around fairly early. All I remember in Hall street was the post office, a butcher shop, a chemist, a fruit shop and of course the Hakoah Club.
