You’ve probably stumbled upon multi-disciplinary artist Peter Woodford-Smith’s work out and about, but not really been aware of what you’re looking at. Its subtle placement often lies in contrast with its bold messaging. The self-described culture jammer and interventionist’s work may creep up on you, quietly catching your eye, then suddenly stop you in your tracks. It’s intriguing, enigmatic and intellectual, out of place but so in place. Peter’s also been described as an “architectural terrorist” on account of his periodic global artistic disruptions. There are traces of his cultural, social, political and environmental commentary everywhere. Be inspired, be aware!

We were curious about an installation of his from a few years ago. Peter had laid a series of small square blue tiles around the North Bondi bus depot. “Mostly still there. This was after a work on Oxford Street Paddington for my Masters of Visual Art by research at UNSWADA. I  circled an entire block accompanying a recording of Djon Mundine on the notion of indigenous time being circular.”

“First hour of the day: Tea, coffee, Instagram and Duolingo (Peter is learning French and Mandarin). Last year I was in the top 1% Duolingo Mandarin (we’re impressed)

I've been coming to Bondi since before I could swim. I moved here in 1980 while I studied art at East Sydney technical college (now the National Art School)”.
