Sheridan Jobbins and Pamela
Sheridan Jobbins and Pamela
We know you’ve seen her before (and very recently) but a wild thing happened last week. Was it a solar flare? Did a butterfly flutter by?
Anyway we were in the middle of telling you that like her mother Joy, Sheridan is also a remarkable woman but then we completely forgot to tell you why.
Sheridan has a long resume. She is, like her father and grandfather before her, a film maker with credits in producing, writing and directing, for every genre from music videos (Mental as Anything, Cold Chisel and Mondo Rock), to short (Machinations) and full length feature films. She was the director of Rebel Penfold-Russell’s Latent Image when it produced the award winning films Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Paws and Wilfull.
She has also spent time in front of the camera. As a 9 year old, Sheridan was the host of Cooking with Sheri. Her Guinness Book of World Records record for that gig stood until 2006. Other credits include various Australian soaps and Simon Townsend’s Wonder World! The list goes on.
Sheridan is the author of Wish You Were Here, the hilarious story of her life-escaping adventure driving across America.
_____________
We recently featured Sheridan’s remarkable mother Joy who died earlier this year. Remarkable begets remarkable (often) and that bring us to Sheridan.
“Since lockdown, I’ve been getting up as early as possible and throwing myself into the ocean. I particularly like to swim laps in the rip at the north end of Bondi. If the tide is running too high, I’ll go to the Wally Weekes Pool (next to the kids pool) and do laps there. But if the wind is really up, I go to the Bergs.
Almost no-one is actually born in Sydney - I was born in Eltham, near Melbourne, but came to Sydney with my family when I was about 3. My mum, who you wrote about recently, was a Bondi babe through and through - so this beach has always been the safe place where we’ve gone to pound the sand and tell each other stories.
The pooch is Pamela of Mosman - she’s part dog and part witches familiar. She goes most everywhere I go.
You ask what do I want people to know about me? Oh yikes. I seem to be living a serial life. I’m currently into my fifty-eleventh career incarnation, this time as Narrative Director for a tech start up called shapeable.ai It blends a number of things I really love - rabbit hole research, the narrative structure of big ideas, helping others to make the world a better place. I feel like you asking me this is an opportunity to give eyeball space to somone who’d do so much more with it that me. Karen Tse at International Bridges to Justice is on a mission to end torture worldwide. Isn’t it great there are people in this life who let us help them help others?
I guess that means - the thing I want people to know about me, is that if you give me something nice (like being on your website!) I like to share it with my friends.
