Simon Dominguez

Simon is Australian but now lives in San Fransisco.

In 2012 Alan Gow and Simon set up sister swim clubs between the Bergs and the San Fransiscan South End Rowing Club (SERC) of which Simon is the past President and Swim Commissioner. Since then the Bergs and SERC alternate swims annually between here and San Fransisco. This year Simon brought 75 South End members for Opening Day at the Bergs in May. A lot of fun was had by all.

What is your Bondi story? 

I am an Aussie who has been living in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2008. I lived at Bondi for in the late 1990s for a number of years. I was Vice Captain of the North Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club and joined the Bergs in 1998 (I think). I did a lot of ocean swimming and really enjoyed my time at Bondi. Every trip that I have back to Sydney (which happens at least once a year), I am always straight to Bondi for a pie, sausage roll and a bodysurf at the beach.

How do you spend the first hour of your day?

I wake at about 5:30 am every day and then spend the first 60 - 90 minutes exercising (trail running, swimming in the pool or Bay, or even sometimes just going for a walk). This is always followed by coffee with my wife and local friends. This way I can be ready to start work easily by 8am.

Is there one thing you’d like people to know about you?

I am a very proud Australian who loves exercising, eating and drinking. As the eating and drinking are an important part of my life, I exercise extensively to try and lead a balanced life. I am an ex ultra marathon swimmer (I swam the English Channel, the length of Lake Tahoe and tried to be the first person in the world to swim from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Farallon Islands). I am now doing some ultra trail runs (50km+ runs) to try and stay active. I am also a very keen snow skier in the winter (when I am not swimming with my club in San Fran which is called the South End Rowing Club or SERC). I swam there last Friday. The water was 11 degrees C.
