Touching the Rail

Touching the Rail

Touching the Rail

When you walk from the South end to the North end of Bondi Beach (as many do), it is essential to actually touch the rail at the very end of the promenade. Not doing this (stopping short, by even a few feet) means that you have effectively cheated, and are clearly someone of inferior character. When Melanie and I witness such behaviour we roll our collective eyes and sometimes throw in some tisk tisk’ing. These people are fooling nobody but themselves.

For our anniversary in 2013, Melanie presented me with a framed close up image of a hand touching this rail, shot by Lola. A powerful metaphor.
