Young and ambitious, Michelle is an emerging artist from Cronulla. She is currently based in Bondi. She has always found joy in “creating and crafting”, and this passion has been an integral part of her journey. Inspired by the rhythm of the ocean in her coastal upbringing, her artistic expression continues to be shaped by her connection to nature.
Ten metre long “Ocean Odyssey: Beyond Bondi” is Michelle’s first public mural and is a testament to her artistic abilities. She opted for a more realistic interpretation than her more abstract works.
“As an artist, I have always been captivated by coastal environments, having grown up and lived near the beach. This innate connection to the sea has consistently influenced my creative expression, which is evident in my artwork.
During the painting process, I coincided with whale season, adding an extra layer of meaning to the artwork. Passersby engaging in whale-watching around the mural found the marine creatures depicted on the wall, predominantly sourced from Australia's east coast and a few from Ningaloo Reef in WA. This choice of subject matter aimed to establish a strong sense of relevance, enabling viewers to establish a deeper connection with my art.
Incorporating the phrase "Sea Beauty; See Value," my intention was to remind viewers of the inherent beauty that lies within our underwater creatures and, in turn, instill an appreciation for their importance in our ecosystem. Ultimately, I hoped to evoke genuine feelings of serenity and peacefulness as viewers stroll alongside the mural, fostering a meaningful and reflective experience.”
