Visiting Bondi | Ray Morris

Sometimes you meet people and you think there just needs to be more like them in the world.

So it was when we bumped into Ray last Saturday on the Promenade, visiting Bondi Beach from his home in Parramatta.

Ray had just come from an AA session at the Bondi Pavilion. He was very happy to talk about that aspect of his life. Indeed he sees it as part of his life’s work. After drinking for 40 years, he has been sober for 12, and has found a serenity in his sobriety that few people find in their lives. His own life has been tough, but he acknowledges and takes responsibility for that.

He is not a religious man but he is deeply spiritual (there was no idle chit-chat in this meeting!)

Ray’s connection to Bondi goes back to the 60s when he used to sit in his car in the beach car park snogging (it was probably pashing back then) his then girlfriend who was a Bondi girl living on Simpson Street.
