Bondi History | Bondi Beach Post Office
Built in 1922, on the corner of Jacques Avenue and Hall Street, the establishment of the Bondi Beach Post Office reflected the growing suburbanisation of the area in the inter war years.
Architect Edwin Hubert Henderson, who went on to become the Chief Commonwealth Architect, was selected to create the now heritage listed building, in the style of Colonial Georgian Revival. Architecture of “superior quality" was preferred for all public buildings at the time.
The post office was heritage listed in 2012, and any modification of the building is subject to the 2018 Heritage Management Plan. This management plan states that any extensions to the original structure should be “sensitive and respectful”.
Enter William Smart Studio, the architectural firm charged with the current adaptation of the building in to boutique apartments with ground level retail.
Henceforth known as Hall20, the new apartment block has retained the original facade of the “much-loved heritage building”.
