Lance Corlett
Lance Corlett
We recently featured one of Lance Corlett’s works that was part of a group show in Surry Hills.
Lance is fascinated by the iconic Art Deco architecture in Bondi.
We asked him if we could see more of these works and to get him to tell us a bit about his process.
“The technique employed in these pieces pays homage to the traditional Australian sign painters of yesteryear. They are painted with oils on paper and then transferred onto glass while carefully removing the backing paper, leaving behind only the thin layer of paint on the glass surface. This technique was responsible for many iconic pub mirrors like those of Tooheys and Reschs throughout the 1900s to the 1960s, and it continues to be a source of fascination for me.”
