What makes a small business an institution? 17 years in the one place will probably do it.
But after 17 years Junia has had to uproot the delicious Sage Beauty and move to the other end of the beach, where (no doubt) she will be become just as embedded as she has at the north end. She has that way about her.
Fear not North Bondi Sage fans, it’s a short walk/bus ride/car trip to Jacques Avenue where Junia has set up her new practice. What’s more Junia has added an infrared sauna. So all the more reason to leave the North Bondi bubble.
Junia fell in love with Bondi “the moment I drove down Bondi Rd and saw this beautiful vista stretching across the bay. It felt like home to me. That was about 35 years ago.
I have always loved the sea and am an avid swimmer, so that was one thing. I also know the value of community, especially when you are from another country, and Bondi is very community minded and this keeps people together.
I also grew to understand and feel for the history of Bondi from a deeper and respectful perspective of the spiritual indigenous story of Boondi. I think you can feel a presence if you tap into it, and I think many people are like me and initially just feel something comforting that they can connect to.”
“I started my first business in North Bondi 30 years ago and opened my 2nd business there - Sage Beauty - 17 years ago. How time has flown!
I am motivated by being of service to people which I truly enjoy as I am always curious and interested in humanity - and a very simple love of what I do in terms of supporting people in their desire for good health. I also thoroughly enjoy working within a team of women I admire and care for immensely. It is also really important to me to create an inviting space for people to discover and feel comfortable in.”
“I spend the first hour of my day running up and down Bondi Beach and then jumping into the ocean and swimming across the bay.” (We can attest to this. We regularly see Junia jogging across the beach or diving into the sea.)
If Junia could change one thing in her life it would be that she would get to see more of her family back in New Zealand where she left all those years ago.
