Sleepy Seal Spotting

Whales get most of the attention, particularly at this time of year. But the seals, like this female New Zealand fur seal, are out there all the time. Who knew?

This one was lying on the sun warmed ramp at the very north end of the promenade.

The woman from ORRCA, the marine mammal rescue organisation who was standing guard lest a stray dog or child approach, thought that this wonderful creature had come up to the shore to have a rest after being in rough seas for the last week. (We know how she feels. We’ll rest for less).
